Mechanics

The player is equipped with the Duty Action “Chocobo Brush”. The arena has four puddles of paint on the arena, and five canvases. Stepping in the puddle will change your Chocobo Brush to a corresponding colour, which is used to paint the canvas on the floor using the Duty Action.

  • The Black Moon canvas and Black Paint puddle is in the NE. Painting this canvas will let you float above the ground in the Air Force.
  • The Blue Tear canvas and Blue Paint puddle is in the SE. Painting this canvas will give you a Fire Resistance buff for 20 seconds.
  • The Red Heart canvas and Red Paint puddle is in the NW. Painting this canvas will transform the player into Typhon with a knockback skill, similar to the Gorilla in The Fist of the Son. Only one player can become Typhon at a time. [the game calls it Red Paint but it’s clearly pink right]
  • The Yellow Sun canvas and Yellow Paint puddle is in the SW. Painting this canvas will summon a giant Rock Pillar on the canvas.
  • The Siren canvas is in the middle of the arena and requires one of all four colours. Painting this canvas will cleanse all players with Song of Bravery, and restore MP, and TP to full. It can be used only once.

Possession There are paintings in each corner of the room. Demon Chadarnook will summon the lady ghost, named Goddess Chadarnook, and they will both tether to a number of paintings. The painting will determine the moves cast afte when they possess the painting.

  • The NE painting is earth.
    • Demon Chadarnook - Earthquake: Paint the Black Moon canvas to float above the ground to avoid being instantly killed.
    • Goddess Chadarnook - Rock Hard (?): Large AoE circles appear under party members, which must be dodged.
  • The SE painting is fire.
    • Demon Chadarnook - Flash Fire: Paint the Blue Tear canvas to gain the Fire Resistance buff to avoid being instantly killed.
    • Goddess Chadarnook will never tether to the fire painting.
  • The NW painting is water.
    • Demon Chadarnook - Demonic Wave: A large AoE across the entire room erupts from the water painting, which must be dodged by standing behind the rock pillar formed by painting the Yellow Sun canvas.
    • Goddess Chadarnook - Flash Torrent: Two large line AoEs of water instantly go across the middle of the room. Be in the direct middle or the outsides, behind the boss to avoid this.
  • The SW painting is wind.
    • Demon Chadarnook - Demonic Typhoon: Easterly adds are scattered across the room. A safe space must be created by knocking back the adds using the Typhon from painting the Red Heart canvas. After a while, the Easterlies will explode, dealing damage in an AoE.
    • Goddess Chadarnook - Flash Gale: Summons a stack marker on a predetermined spot. Players must stack in the gale to prevent it from exploding.

The boss will spawn approximately 17 seconds after engaging combat. Both tanks will be autoattacked, one by the Demon and the other by the Goddess.

Release The boss moves to the middle and readies Possession.

Demonic Howl Raid wide moderate AoE magic damage.

Demonic Shear Heavy magical tank buster.

Divine Lure Goddess Chadarnook will cast a gaze spell from a spot on the arena. Will seduce if looking at her. Look away.

Poltergeist An untargetable poltergeist add spawns during Divine Lure, which tethers onto a healer, and slowly walks toward them. The healer must look at the add to stop it from moving and despawn it after a while. Alternatively, kite the add around until it disappears.

Demonic Pain Tethers two tanks with two DPS. Tethered players must be far apart from each other when they resolve to not blow up. The distance is max melee range on opposite sides of the boss and anywhere further than that. When it resolves, tethered players take AoE damage. When the tether becomes purple, it is safe.

Last Kiss A DPS is marked for the Last Kiss debuff, which can be passed. This must be passed to a tank and mitigated, as it deals heavy damage when the debuff resolves.

Materialize Demon Chadarnook materializes a Haunt, using a specific skill afterwards.

Demonic Stone Marks two players. Invisible magical AoEs spawn where the players walk. The players must dodge the AoEs.

Demonic Storm A stack marker that shares damage between all party members in the stack.

Demonic Spout Four AoE markers appear twice in a row, one under teach DPS.

Lullaby Inflicts all party members with the Apathetic debuff, which drains HP, MP, and TP (not like you care.) The Siren canvas must be painted to remove the debuff. + Assign four players (preferably ranged), one to each Paint colour.

Fight Strategy

Phase 1:

  • The boss engages when you walk past the halfway mark, but doesn’t spawn until 17 seconds in. Make sure you prep shields, regens, Shadewalker, Huton, etc. with this in mind. Take Blue Paint before you start so you don’t have to take it for the first mechanic.
  • For Flash Fire, simply paint the Blue Tear before it goes off. Flash Gale must be shared between party members. Alternatively, a PLD or DRK can use an invulnerability. Be ready to heal the Demonic Howl right afterwards if you choose to stack.
  • The first Divine Lure will come from the Southwest.
  • If two melees are tethered together for Demonic Pain, stand at max melee range on opposite sides of the boss - it will be far enough.

Phase 2:

  • [Our assigned spots were A marker in the Southwest corner on the south wall and B marker in the Southwest corner on the west wall.]
  • Assign a spot to bait Rock Hard. Everyone stands on the spot, and when the AoE circles appear, everyone moves out. [We baited Rock Hard on A.]
  • Assign one player (preferably healer) to paint the Red Heart and become Typhon. Designate a safe spot near the boss, and blow the Easterlies away from that safe spot. [Our safe spot was A.]
  • Last Kiss should be passed to the OT. The OT should be standing on a designated spot behind the boss to make passing the debuff easier. [Our OT stood on B.]
  • The Divine Lure comes from the Southeast. It is accompanied with a Demonic Storm, so everyone stand near the boss looking away. The healer afflicted with Poltergeist doesn’t need to stack.

Phase 3:

  • All players must paint the Blue Tear first, then the Black Moon in order to mitigate Flash Fire and dodge Earthquake. You can exit Air Force right after Earthquake hits.
  • Stay behind the boss close to the painting to dodge Demonic Wave.
  • The assigned paint players should go get their paint afterwards to prepare for Apathy. As soon as Apathy debuff hits, use the Duty Action. There is a small delay between painting and being cleansed.
  • Two DPS will be targeted with Demonic Stone. Make sure to dodge the subsequent AoEs and not to lead any AoEs into party members.
  • Pass Last Kiss onto the OT, preferably behind the boss.

Phase 4:

  • The player assigned to the Yellow Paint should paint the Yellow Sun right away. All players must bait Rock Hard at a designated spot, then line of sight Flash Torrent behind the pillar that spawns from the Yellow Sun.
  • Afterwards, stack on the designated safe spot and have the Red Paint player blow the Easterlies away again.
  • The boss will cast Demonic Spout. The four DPS should stack on each other, and move together to avoid taking up space. Move back to the original position to stack for Demonic Storm.
  • Stack loosely around the boss to prepare for Last Kiss, and don’t be in the middle of the arena to dodge the water AoE. This Last Kiss resolves at the same time as Demonic Howl, so extra mitigation and/or shielding may be necessary.

Phase 5:

  • Again, the same as Phase 3 - all players must paint the Blue Tear first, then the Black Moon in order to mitigate Flash Fire and dodge Earthquake.
  • Players must be prepared to stack for Flash Gale as soon as Earthquake resolves, and it spawns on the west side of the arena, away from the paint and boss. Alternatively, have a PLD or DRK invuln it. Demonic Howl resolves at the same time, so prepare mitigation and healing.
  • DPS must dodge Demonic Stone while looking away from Divine Lure.

Phase 6:

  • Again, the same as Phase 4 - the player assigned to the Yellow Paint should paint the Yellow Sun right away. All players must bait Rock Hard at a designated spot, then line of sight Flash Torrent behind the pillar that spawns from the Yellow Sun.
  • Afterwards, stack on the designated safe spot and have the Red Paint player blow the Easterlies away again.
  • Do not heal the final Demonic Howl - right after is the enrage cast. Everyone should be DPSing at this point to try and beat enrage.

Role Specific Tips

Tank:

  • All damage in this fight is magical, including the main tank buster, Demonic Shear.
  • After the first Release, both tanks will take autoattacks.
  • The Flash Gale can be invulned, though a PLD will lose major uptime for the second one if they don’t have Holy Spirits\. A DRK can move out and Plunge back both times.
  • High usage of Divine Veil and Shake It Off is recommended for the high AoE damage.
  • Tanks will always receive the Demonic Pain tether. Steer clear of other players and simply stand at max melee range for uptime.
  • The tank that is receiving Last Kiss should stand somewhere visible, yet away from other players to ensure they do not accidentally pass it to someone else.
  • The boss does not move. Don’t bother trying to move him.

Healer:

  • There is lots of heavy magic AoE damage in this fight, ranging from fast-paced Demonic Howl to Demonic Storm. Plan out AoE healing tools such as Indomitability, Earthly Star, Whispering Dawn, and Assize/Asylum as necessary.
  • As both tanks take autoattacks, it may be necessary to dedicate more GCDs to healing than necessary, and regens are very efficient.
  • Heavy shielding and mitigation is recommended for Demonic Storm and Flash Gale (if you choose to stack ranged). A Demonic Howl will always follow Flash Gale almost immediately after.
  • Standing under the boss’s hitbox and looking away for a fraction of a second for Divine Lure is the optimal strategy to deal with Poltergeist.
  • As healers are relatively mobile, grab Paint beforehand if necessary to deal with a mechanic. Healers should be doing Song of Bravery, and one should be doing Typhon.

DPS:

  • Recommended additional Role Actions: Addle (caster), Apocatastasis (caster)
    • True North is not necessary.
  • The boss has no positionals, so stand wherever as necessary for mechanics. It is possible to get 100% melee uptime on the boss.
  • Stand at max melee range on the other side of the tethered tank to deal with Demonic Pain.
  • Delay painting the Black Moon canvas until after he goes into the painting. You will still dodge Earthquake, and retain uptime.
  • Mobile ranged should grab Paint beforehand if necessary to deal with a mechanic. Ranged should be doing Song of Bravery. Bait Demonic Spouts together.
